Meet Our Horses

Some of the herd enjoying the shade of our walnut trees.

These are just some of our current horses. All of the pictures shown above where the horses are being ridden were taken during our 2009 summer camp. Some of the campers have ridden quite a bit, others were just beginning, but we all had fun 🙂 Even during camp, the horses are ridden bareback with halters.

Playing in the pasture.

The icy’s display two gaits in addition to the typical walk, trot, and canter/gallop commonly displayed by other breeds. The only breed of horse in Iceland, they are also popular internationally, and sizable populations exist in Europe and North America. The breed is still used for traditional sheepherding work in its native country, as well as for leisure, showing, and racing.
